Officer Mario Herrera

St. Elizabeth/Nebraska Heart Foundation has established a special fund to support the family of Officer Mario Herrera, a member of the Lincoln Police Department who passed away on September 7. A highly decorated 23-year veteran of the LPD, Officer Herrera succumbed to his injuries after being shot in the line of duty on August 26. Herrera also served as a security officer at St. Elizabeth for 22 years.

“Mario was a friend to many and will be dearly missed,” St. Elizabeth/Nebraska Heart Chief Development Officer Donna Hammack said. "Herrera and his family have many close ties in the community as members of St. Theresa parish and at Pius X High School."

St. Elizabeth/Nebraska Heart Foundation is accepting donations through its Employee Hardship fund to support Herrera’s wife Carrie and four children. Those who wish to donate can do so by filling out the form below, or sending their gift to:
